For one of the first AC Hotels in NYC located at the nexus of the Financial District and the historic Seaport District in lower Manhattan, PPA designed the public and guestroom spaces with contrasting elements of the ephemeral and the solid, reflected in the materials chosen, the open flow and connection of spaces.
The ground floor lobby’s focus is an open freestanding stair against a faux waterfall backdrop, with direct visual connection to the bar and activities on the 2nd floor lounge space. A large continuous shelf with undulating modules in black and gold greet the guest upon landing on the 2nd floor, while the lounge seats along the floor to ceiling clear glass façade lead to the bar and lounge space, where at the corner there is an open view of the bustling corner. The guest corridors have even and soothingly dim lighting, with a simple focus point at the elevator banks - bead blasted black stainless steel panels run up the elevator wall and becomes a canopy just below the ceiling, the reveals highlighted by hidden LED lights.
